Breaking the Norms and Rules

What is your risk-taking level? How does it help you discover new things and grow in character?

Do you remember Apple’s now-iconic Think Different campaign back in the late 90s? With its famous opening line "Here’s to crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in square holes..."

Well, this ad reminds me, that despite the fact as a culture, we acknowledge the rebellious genius because of their ability to make us see the world differently, many organizations both value and disapprove of them. Why? Because they challenge thoughts, processes, and the status quo. They raise the bar for everyone else and they call people out. They see things differently. And that comes with both opportunities and challenges. Especially for those who are less secure about themselves. As a result, They have a hard time working with people that push boundaries and challenge the way things are done.

If you can relate, below are some strategies you can use to help you embrace that rebellious genius in you:

• If you have an idea you want to pursue, but worry it will ruffle a few feathers, be bold and authentic, and see what happens.

• Work to develop a thick skin and allow criticism to roll off your back. Stay true to yourself and what you believe.

• Push yourself to stay the course with resolve. Don’t get easily discouraged or distracted in the face of adversity. Be resilient!

Be crazy enough to think that you can change the world. Because you will!

Wishing you continued growth and success,

Sincerely,

Nora Paxton
